E is 4 for Illustration Friday

Image hosted by Photobucket.comThis week's Illustration Friday topic is "E is for..."

I figured there were going to be enough elephants in the sitting room for this one, so I decided to go for a really literal approach.

The initial black and white sketch took me 5-10 minutes max (it shows :)). When I scanned it in I decided flat colours would make the message a lot clearer, and I had to change a few things that didn't work in flat colours, such as the classic cartoon gloves.

Silly topic = silly picture! :)

Comments:
I think it's a refreshing approach and a fun picture - the "4" just kills me...you're too funny! E's 4th birthday is a huge success!!

LOL! Very funny! Mary

Adorable illo... very funny! I like the humor a lot!!!!

Silly topic indeed and very close to last week's topic C except for all the elephants :) REfrEshing approach!

and hey i like the icing on the cake! it looks silky and yummy!

I like literal, unconventional appraoches. It's kinda nice to know I'm not alone aout here. ;-)

You translated well into flat color.

LOL..Great interperation. Very funny.

Ian, you're so clever:> This is a very wonderful interpretation...lighthearted and fun!

Funny round M&M type of guy!

Smooch,
The Tart

Thanks, all!

Jody, E doesn't mind looking a bit Eminem (or even Don's E=M... formula).

Nevermind E's birthday - R turned 16 yesterday, and she's not even my oldest daughter. I'm not that old... truly I'm not!

John, I used Paintshop for this - I really like it: cheap and easy to use. However, Paintshop only does RGB colour, which is really only for displaying onscreen, whereas Photoshop can also do CYMK colour for print (so I use it when I have do, even though I find parts of it unwieldy and confusing, and I still haven't figured out how to create customised palettes).
